A&ES’ theme-based 17th century Spanish galleon attraction on Orlando’s International Drive features the 41’ tall San Philippe pirate ship
Located in Orlando, Florida and just off International Drive, Pirate’s Cove, a theme-based family attraction, recently performed a major expansion featuring the addition of new scenic designs, structures and props. Tasked with the interactive show design and development, the Attraction & Entertainment Solutions’ creative team was busy at its expansive Jacksonville facility with the design, engineering, and production of the key scenic structures and authentic props, as well as the accompanying audiovisual, lighting, mechanical and special effects.
One such structure is the mammoth hull of a highly ornamental and heavy gunned 17th century Spanish Galleon, the design of which is based on the Queen ship – the San Philippe. Designed to local codes, this massive seafaring structure is 56’ long and 41’ tall. The Spanish Galleon features highly detailed custom dimensional ornamentation, faux texturing and finishing, and is crafted using various specialized techniques, such as CNC routing, millwork, and metal and fiberglass fabrication.
A&ES completed the installation of all of the new features in late April 2013.
